This three-part webinar series will provide educators and related service professionals with practical, evidence-based strategies to support children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) whose families have identified listening and spoken language as a desired outcome. Participants will explore auditory brain development, optimizing auditory access through environmental modifications and remote microphone technology, and the development of executive function, Theory of Mind, and self-advocacy skills. Across all three sessions, connections to secondary transition will be intentionally addressed by examining how early development of auditory access, technology management, self-awareness, self-advocacy, independence, and social-communication skills builds the foundation students need to successfully navigate post-secondary education, employment, and community settings.

This one-hour webinar will explore how accessible acoustic environments provide the auditory brain with the clear, consistent information it needs to develop, organize, and function effectively. Participants will examine how distance, noise, and reverberation can degrade the auditory signal before it reaches the brain, and how remote microphone technology can improve access to the speaker’s voice at home, in the classroom, and in the community. Practical strategies will emphasize that hearing technology is not simply about making sound louder. Rather it is about providing the brain with high-quality auditory information for listening, language, learning, literacy, and social connections.

Executive Function and Theory of Mind: Supporting Academic, Social, and Future Workplace Success
This one-hour webinar will explore how executive function (EF) and Theory of Mind (ToM) support learning, social relationships, independence, and future workplace success. Emphasis will be placed on how exposure to auditory information with subsequent auditory brain development contribute to the incidental learning, language, and social experiences that help build higher-level cognitive skills. Practical strategies will address strengthening a child’s EF and ToM skills along with intentionally developing self-awareness and self-advocacy from the early years through post-secondary transition.
